Battle of the spin wizards as Zouks and Tridents reunite rivalries

Daren Sammy and co. will be up against the Barbados Tridents next in the 2020 Hero Caribbean Premier League, as the St.Lucia Zouks set their sights on making it to the semi-finals. A win against Jason Holder’s team will further consolidate St.Lucia Zouks’ position in the top four as the group stages slowly draw towards a close.

Both sides have been in good form and have a variety of spin bowlers at their disposal, negating each other’s strengths and making for a keenly contested clash on Sunday, August 29.

Head-to-Head Record

Barbados Tridents

Reigning champions Barbados Tridents hold the upper hand in the head-to-head record, however it was the Zouks who emerged victorious when the two sides met earlier in CPL 2020. Only once before in the 2018 CPL season have the Zouks managed to do the double over the Tridents, and the match on Sunday represents a golden opportunity to repeat that feat.

Watch out for:
Mohammad Nabi has undoubtedly been one of the most valuable players for the St. Lucia Zouks this season, performing with both bat and ball. Nabi created history in the previous game against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, becoming the first player to pick a five-wicket haul in CPL 2020. His off-spin has been a thorn for opposition batsmen in the powerplay, and with his power-hitting in the slog overs with bat in hand, the 35-year-old is the player to watch out for in this competition.

Najibullah Zadran has shown great promise this season for the St.Lucia Zouks. The southpaw from Afghanistan has got starts in most games for his franchise this season, but has been unable to consolidate on those knocks. Nevertheless, Zadran has been a consistent performer for his team this season, and this game against the Tridents could finally be one where he kicks on and gets a big score.

Opponent Corner

Barbados Tridents have played five games so far in CPL 2020, and have four points to their name. Barring Kyle Mayers, none of their batsmen have really clicked this season, with the onus of scoring runs falling primarily on all-rounders like Jason Holder and Mitchell Santner. The Tridents though however have a strong spin attack comprising Rashid Khan, Santner and Ashley Nurse; and those overs of spin are the ones Zouks batsmen need to play out shrewdly if they are to get a second consecutive win.

Probable XI: Andre Fletcher, Rahkeem Cornwall, Mark Deyal, Roston Chase, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Daren Sammy(c), Scott Kuggelejin, Chemar Holder, Kesrick Williams, Zahir Khan.

NOTE:The aforementioned line-up is an educated guess at best, and the final decision rests with the captain and the team management depending on various external factors.
