Won’t let the points table affect the team’s goals, says Daren Sammy

Saint Lucia Kings haven’t endured the best of starts to the 2021 HERO Caribbean Premier League, as they currently find themselves on the bottom of the points table, with just one win so far in the competition. Last season’s finalists lost by a big margin in their opening game against the Jamaica Tallawahs, and suffered a defeat against the Trinbago Knight Riders on Tuesday as well.

Despite the rocky start, Saint Lucia Kings team mentor Daren Sammy believes that it isn’t yet time to press the panic button for his franchise, and believes a spirited performance against Guyana Amazon Warriors on Thursday can help the Kings bounce back quickly.

“We will not let the position of the table affect the goals that we have in our minds. Saint Lucia Kings will always have that never say die attitude, that’s what we are all about,” said Daren Sammy in an exclusive interview with Saint Lucia Kings.

All about the executions

“We have Guyana Amazon Warriors tomorrow, we have watched them play this season, we have a plan against them and I believe a plan is successful when you execute well,” explained Sammy in the same interview.

“Tomorrow is all about the execution. We fancy our matchups against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. The last time we played them last year, we set a record, so hopefully that will give the guys the confidence and the belief that is needed in order to come out victorious,” concluded Sammy.

Last season, the Kings beat the Warriors by ten wickets in the second semi-final, needing less than five overs to chase down the paltry target of 56 runs. Faf Du Plessis and co. would take great confidence from such a performance, and hope for a repeat of something similar come Thursday as they try to climb up the points table.
