Saint Lucia Kings aim to secure CPL 2022 playoff spot with victory over Jamaica Tallawahs

Saint Lucia Kings will look to seal their Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 playoff spot when they square off against Jamaica Tallawahs in their final league match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday, September 25.

Under the leadership of captain Faf du Plessis, the Kings are currently placed second in the CPL 2022 standings with eight points from nine matches, having registered four wins and five defeats so far.

Meanwhile, the Daren Sammy-coached outfit will aim to bounce back after suffering a disappointing six-wicket loss against the Guyana Amazon Warriors in their last match at the same venue on Thursday. The Kings failed to defend 195 against the Warriors and will now need to secure a victory in their final league match.

On the other hand, two-time CPL champions Jamaica Tallawahs will hope to end their two-match losing streak in the ongoing T20 tournament. The Rovman Powell-led Tallawahs have been in poor form recently and succumbed to defeats against the Warriors and the Trinbago Knight Riders in their last two CPL 2022 matches. Despite back-to-back losses, the Tallawahs are placed third in the standings with eight points from nine matches.

The winner of the Saint Lucia Kings and Jamaica Tallawahs match on Sunday will advance to the playoffs while the loser will have to depend on other results to go their way in order to secure their place in the last four.

Interestingly, only table-toppers Barbados Royals have sealed their playoff spot, having accumulated 16 points from nine matches so far.

Saint Lucia Kings vs Jamaica Tallawahs head-to-head

Saint Lucia Kings defeated Jamaica Tallawahs by two wickets in their previous meeting in the ongoing edition of the Caribbean Premier League earlier in September.

The Kings rode on Johnson Charles’ 62 runs off 39 balls and David Wiese’s unbeaten 15-ball 20 to chase down 164 in 19.5 overs. Earlier, Jamaica Tallawahs posted 163/8 in their allotted 20 overs courtesy Raymon Reifer’s 41-ball 62.

However, Jamaica Tallawahs have a superior head-to-head record against the Saint Lucia Kings in the CPL, winning 11 of the 18 matches that they have played so far. The Kings have registered seven victories so far.

Going by recent form and head-to-head results, Saint Lucia Kings will aim to do the double over Jamaica Tallawahs this season and seal their CPL 2022 playoff spot.
