Saint Lucia Kings kick-off CPL 2021 with a tryst against the Tallawahs

Temperatures in the Caribbean can be expected to soar in the coming few weeks with CPL 2021 scheduled to start soon. This season’s Caribbean Premier League is set to begin on August 26 with the final slated to be played on September 15, with the entirety of the competition to be played in the St.Kitts and Nevis Islands.

The opening game of the tournament will feature champions Trinbago Knight Riders, who will take on the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Saint Lucia Kings are set to play their first game of the 2021 Caribbean Premier League on August 27 against the Jamaica Tallawahs in what will be a repeat of last season’s opening clash for both these franchises. The Tallawahs emerged victorious on that occasion but the Kings would look to avenge that defeat in 2021.

Following that, we have a repeat of last season’s final on the cards as Saint Lucia Kings take on Kieron Pollard’s Trinbago Knight Riders twice in the span of a week (August 29 & 31). Faf Du Plessis’ side will then clash against the Guyana Amazon Warriors (September 2), who suffered a ten-wicket drubbing against the Kings in the semi-final of CPL 2020.

Next in line for the Kings will be last season’s bottom placed team St.Kitts and Nevis Patriots (September 4), who however have roped in the Universe Boss, Chris Gayle for this edition. Saint Lucia Kings beat the Patriots twice in 2020, and will hope to continue that glittering record.

Saint Lucia Kings will end their league stage games with back-to-back fixtures against the Barbados Tridents (September 11 & 12), who have bolstered their squad with the inclusion of Chris Morris, Mohammad Amir and Thisara Perera.

The Kings are set to play ten league games in a span of 17 days, and will be playing games on consecutive days on occasion in CPL 2021. The league stages of CPL 2021 will be played entirely in a double header format, with a couple of triple headers also fitted into the schedule ahead of the semi-finals. Following the group stages, the top four ranked teams will participate in the semis, as was the schedule last season.

Saint Lucia Kings were beaten finalists in CPL 2020, but this time around with a new captain and a squad teeming with young talent, would be optimistic to go one further when the action kicks off in the Caribbean in the last week of August.

Here’s a look at the full schedule for St.Lucia Kings in the 2021 Caribbean Premier League.
