Champions Tridents await St. Lucia Zouks in second game of CPL 2020

A game against champions Barbados Tridents beckons for the St. Lucia Zouks on day three of the 2020 Hero Caribbean Premier League. Having lost their opening game against Jamaica Tallawahs, Daren Sammy and co. would be looking to bounce back quickly and get a win against the reigning champions to get some much needed momentum in the competition.

The Barbados Tridents won their opening game, thanks to good performances from their spinners, Rashid Khan and Mitchell Santner, as they managed to defend a paltry score of 153. However, their top order was laid bare in their opening game, and the likes of Shai Hope, Johnson Charles and Jason Holder will hope for a better outing in the second game.

CPL champions Barbados Tridents have had the upper hand when it comes to the head-to-head record, and have started this season strongly with a win in their opening game against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. However, the St.s Lucia Zouks would be a tricky test for Jason Holder and co. given the shrewd overseas signings they made in Mohammad Nabi and Zahir Khan.

Watch out for:

Roston Chase top scored for the Zouks on opening day, getting his maiden T20 fifty. The 28-year-old provides some much needed stability and experience to the middle order. With his low risk cricket, Chase is the ideal candidate for the St. Lucia Zouks to build their innings, as it allows the more attacking players like Mohammad Nabi, Andre Fletcher and others to play their natural game.

Kesrick Williams was the pick of the bowlers for the Zouks against Jamaica Tallawahs. Although he conceded 18 runs in his first over, he came back strongly in the next three to finish with figures of 2/32, picking the wickets of Andre Russell and Glenn Phillips. With several variations in his repertoire and the experience of playing consistently in the Caribbean Premier League, Williams will be a tricky customer to decode for the Barbados Tridents.

Opponent Corner

For the Tridents, it was their spin combination of Rashid Khan and Mitchell Santner that rescued them with both - the bat and the ball in their opening game. The experienced spinners got a lot of purchase on the turning tracks of Tarouba. Apart from these two, a formidable batting attack of Shai Hope, Jason Holder and Johnson Charles could make the Tridents a tough nut to crack.

Probable XI: Andre Fletcher, Rakheem Cornwall, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Daren Sammy (c), Roston Chase, Scott Kuggelejin, Chemar Holder, Kesrick Williams, Obed McCoy, Zahir Khan

NOTE:The aforementioned line-up is an educated guess at best, and the final decision rests with the captain and the team management depending on various external factors.
