The top performers for Saint Lucia Kings in the 6ixty

The Kings found several stars that proved their mettle in the recently-concluded high-octane 10-over tournament.

The inaugural edition of the 6ixty tournament has been a huge hit. While bringing a fresh new outlook on T10 cricket, the tournament also provided some vital game time to teams ahead of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022.

Although Saint Lucia Kings could not make the playoffs of the 6ixty, the fast-paced tournament gave them plenty of positives that can work in their favour in the upcoming 20-over extravaganza.

On top of that list is Roshon Primus and his exploits with both bat and ball.

Primus showed fantastic touch with the bat, scoring 101 runs in the three matches for the Kings. A fantastic knock of 41 off 23 balls against Guyana Amazon Warriors saw the right-handed batter start the tournament in style. His knock of 48 in 25 balls against Jamaica Tallawahs set the stage for Saint Lucia to win their first match in the tournament.

Moreover, Roshon Primus ended as the joint second-highest run-scorer of 6ixty in the group stage, with a whopping 101 runs in three innings.

Along with dominating with the bat, Roshon Primus also contributed with the ball to hold off 16 runs in the final over against Jamaica Tallawahs and win the match for the Kings.

Another batter than dazzled for the Kings in the 6ixty was opener Johnson Charles. He scored 60 runs in two matches, hitting four fours and five massive sixes. The batting wicket-keeper looked in great touch and will be expected to carry the momentum into the CPL.

Primus and Charles’ batting form is a good sign for Saint  Lucia Kings, who are looking to better last year’s finalist position and bring the trophy home this year.

Meanwhile, Jesse Bootan and Ravendra Persaud have also shown glimpses of quality with the bat.

In the bowling department, Jeavor Royal was the pick of the lot, snaring four wickets and ending as the joint-highest wicket-taker of the group stage.

Royal was joined by impressive performances by Scott Kuggeleijn and Matthew Forde, who picked up four wickets between them in the 10-over competition.

This showed that the bowling attack has a useful penchant for picking up wickets in crunch situations, which will be a huge boost for the side when the 20-over CPL kicks off next month.

The Kings’ CPL campaign begins on September 1 against Jamaica Tallawalahs.
